On this day take a moment to remember how everything started normal with people going about their daily lives. At 08:47hrs the initial call was reported via radio by FDNY Battalion 1 asking for Box 8087 to be transmitted with a 2nd alarm called for almost immediately afterwards. This was the beginning of the most tragic event ever to unfold for fire fighters in the history of the service. With the ensuing collapse of both WTC 1 and WTC 2 the disaster took the lives of thousands of civilians as well as 343 FDNY personnel, 37 Port Authority of New York and New Jersey PD personnel, 23 NYPD personnel, 8 EMS personnel and 1 Fire Patrol member. Please remember those lost as well as those still suffering from the effects of working at the site in the weeks and months after who are now ill. Always remember 9/11.
