At 15:20hrs the Fire Department was advised of a possible spill of an unknown substance in a water way in the 10000 block of Cash Rd. Upon arrival an orange sheen was seen in the waterway and personnel began placing containment booms and absorbent pads while requesting the response of Fort Bend County Haz Mat. Investigation revealed the substance to be from the discharge of a neighboring business where product was simply being dumped in a storm drain. Through the combined efforts of the Stafford Fire Department, Stafford Fire Marshal’s Office, Stafford Code Enforcement Department and the Fort Bend County Haz Mat Team, the product was contained, samples taken to identify the product, the responsible party identified and enforcement actions taken. Prior to clearing the scene the services of a private clean up company was secured by the responsible party to remove not only the product but also contaminated soil. All units returned to service by 20:00hrs.
