Today a monumental task was undertaken by Stafford Fire Department personnel with assistance from our education partners. Using over 20-instructors from SFD, Fort Bend County EMS, Cypress Creek EMS, Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC) and Houston Healthcare Clear Lake the “Stop the Bleed” course was presented to 480-staff of the Stafford Municipal School District (SMSD). This effort was undertaken to not only comply with a new state law effective January 1, 2020 for all school districts in the state, but also to truly give SMSD staff the knowledge to help students, fellow staff or any one in need of assistance who is suffering large volume blood loss. While we hope the skill set presented today is never needed, it is reassuring that the staff of SMSD is prepared. Many thanks to Battalion Chief Jose Magana and Kathryn Samuel from SETRAC for coordinating and all the instructors who assisted in presenting this course and congrats to SMSD for thinking ahead.
