At 22:32hrs Engine 22 was dispatched to a reported automatic alarm in the 4400 block of Greenbriar Dr. As the apparatus began to depart the station the crew was startled to see a tractor trailer traveling at a high rate of speed on Mula Rd. approaching their apparatus. The Chauffeur immediately stopped the apparatus as the tractor trailer passed within 6′ of the front of Engine 22, which was still on the station apron, before careening into the station yard striking a power pole, severing a water shut off valve and ultimately coming to rest with the trailer having spun 180-degrees. After the initial shock wore off, and with the tractor trailer having struck the utility pole, the crew of Engine 22 correctly judged that a power line was on top of their apparatus. After ensuring of no injuries to their crew all personnel jumped clear of the apparatus to check on the driver of the tractor trailer. As the crew approached the wrecked tractor trailer the driver emerged from the cab, and when asked if he was ok, immediately charged the crew of Engine 22 punching the Chauffeur in the face before being subdued by the remainder of the crew. As this was occurring Battalion 21, having heard the crash from the station, arrived and immediately assumed command and asked for EMS and PD emergency due to the fight. With the driver continuing to fight and verbally threaten Engine 22’s crew with a fire arm Stafford PD arrived and detained the subject allowing personnel to assess the damage. Upon completion of a 360 it was determined that an active fuel leak from the tractor was mixing with water from the severed water shut off valve creating a significant flow of diesel. With PD and EMS treating the driver of the truck personnel began diking operations to control run off and requested Fort Bend County Haz Mat to respond. With the runoff contained, the tractor trailer driver in care of EMS & PD, the power lines removed from Engine 22 by the utility company and all hazards secured personnel stood by until arrival of the private cleanup company. Finally with the tractor trailer removed and the road made passable all units returned to service at approximately 01:00hrs. The tractor trailer driver, following treatment at the hospital, will be facing multiple charges.
