At 13:47hrs Booster 22 was requested to the 1900 block of FM1092 to assist MCFRS with a grass fire. While enroute the box alarm was then dispatched for the same address bringing Truck 21 and Battalion 21. Upon arrival of Battalion 31 a large area of grass with 20′ flames was visible 200′ off the road to the rear of a construction company with fire extending to the neighboring private storage complex. With Booster 22 assigned as 1st due booster to begin containing the fast moving grass, Truck 21 was assigned to the structure fire along with C2101 and Battalion 21 assigned as the Accountability Officer. Upon arrival in the storage complex Engine 33 reported fire involving 14-storage units and continuing to spread. With the assistance of Ladder 31, Ladder 32, Truck 21 and Engine 3 this fire was contained as other booster resources continued to address the spreading grass fire. Despite containment of the original building fire the grass fire then extended into a second row of storage units. Additional resources then assigned included Engine 42, Engine 5, Engine 91, Engine 51, Engine 59, Engine 73, District 59, Battalion 41 and Chief 3 to achieve control. Following final containment of the grass fire and building fires the situation was placed under control holding units on scene. Following significant overhaul of the entire fire ground Stafford FD units returned to service at 18:37hrs. A big thank you to ESD #48 Rehab 3 and FBCEMS for the medical monitoring and formal rehab of operating personnel. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the MCFRS Fire Marshal’s Office.
